JAVANESE BATIK WORKSHOP

  • 42Sixteen 4216 Montgomery Rd Norwood, Ohio 45212 United States (map)

Join us for a hands-on Javanese Batik Workshop, a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tradition of batik-making, a centuries-old textile art form from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Designed for anyone interested in slow craft and traditional art-making, this workshop invites you to explore the beauty of indigo and wax-resist dyeing techniques in a supportive and creative environment.

You’ll learn the authentic method of creating batik as practiced in Yogyakarta. While the batik craft traditionally requires years of practice to master its intricacies, we’ll adapt the process to fit our workshop’s time frame by focusing on simpler designs. You’ll still have the opportunity to experience the magic of creating your batik piece, while learning about the history of batik, natural indigo dyeing, and how batik fits into the broader movement of slow fashion.

Materials are provided, and no previous experience is required—just bring your curiosity and creativity!

This event is made possible with funding from the American Institute for Indonesian Studies and the Henry Luce Foundation.

Space is limited, so reserve your spot today and join us in celebrating the timeless art of Javanese batik, while exploring new ways to slow down and engage thoughtfully with fashion.
